For What It’s Worth

For What It’s Worth is performance artist Jess Dobkin’s new installation commissioned by the Wellcome Collection for their ‘Milk’ exhibition. Jess’ project invites you to consider the politics and ethics of selling and exchanging human milk in the 21st century.

Commissioned as part of ‘Milk’ at the Wellcome Collection museum in London, UK, this major exhibition explores human relationships with milk and its place in politics, society and culture. Featuring over 100 items, including historical objects, artworks and new commissions, it asks why has cow’s milk come to be seen as essential to a good diet in the UK? When did breastfeeding become a political subject? And how has milk been used to exert power as well as provide care? Presented from 30 March 2023 – 10 September 2023.
