Hemispheric Encounters: Developing Transborder Research-Creation Practices brings together scholars, artists, activists, and community organizations from across the Americas to explore hemispheric performance as an artistic practice for addressing social and environmental justice.
Oralities Cluster
Oralities explores the multiplicity of oral practices in the Americas, attending to performative aspects of testimony, storytelling, translation, and other forms of expressive exchange in different contexts including within Indigenous communities, among disabled people, and those affected by mass violence.
Ecologies Cluster
Ecologies delves into legacies of transnational resource extraction and land politics. The Ecologies cluster considers site-based performance strategies that address politics of land (and agencies of its more-than human inhabitants), as well as spatial politics of occupying public spaces.
Mobilities Cluster
Mobilities references border politics and conditions of the migrant trail. The Mobilites cluster looks at the effects of migrating people and art practices across borders.
Performing Archives
Performing Archives includes a stream of archive-focused research-creation activities that flow across and link all areas. Playing with time and space, it simultaneously looks backwards in tracing the histories of vital hemispheric forms and their connections beyond borders, and forwards in enlivening and unlocking the political potential of performances past through embodied actions.
