Danzantes del Alba, Teatro Línea de Sombra

Danzantes del Alba (Dancers of the Dawn) is a theatrical movement piece that celebrates the resilience of workers who travel the migrant route from Central America to Mexico. In December 2023, Teatro Línea de Sombra (TLS) performed Danzantes del Alba at New York University’s Skirball Theatre as part of their residency at the Hemispheric Institute of Performance and Politics in partnership with Hemispheric Encounters.

The 2023 New York production included cast dancers from local immigrant communities to centralize the embodied life histories of immigrant experiences, which is integral to the performance.

During TLS’s tenure at NYU, the Hemispheric Institute also hosted a symposium, Stages in Movement, celebrating the 30th anniversary of the theatre company. The event focused on Teatro Línea de Sombra’s exceptional works on migration, as well as the research and archival methodologies that guide their creative practice.

Founded in Mexico in 1993, Teatro Línea de Sombra is an internationally renowned collective of theatre-makers, researchers, and actors. The company produces theatrical pieces, exhibitions, and other performance experiences.
