Expo-Cobas
Expo-Cobas is a cultural festival started by Dr. Felipe Montoya (Director of York University’s Las Nubes Campus) in Quizarrá, Costa Rica. The festival serves as a space that showcases the wealth of the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor in terms of agricultural production, scientific and academic production, artistic and cultural production, as well as the natural ecological wealth that the corridor embraces. The two-day festival provides a space for local artisans to show and sell their wares, and for local artists, musicians, and dancers to perform. It is a space for environmental and arts education, and above all, an opportunity to consolidate a community identity around the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor, and around the legacy of Alexander Skutch, renowned naturalist and ornithologist who made his home in what is now known as the Alexander Skutch Biological Corridor. In May 2023, students from York University, working with professors Laura Levin and Brandon Vickerd from the School of the Arts, Media, Performance & Design, assisted in the running of the festival and gained valuable knowledge about community-led festival creation.
