Hemispheric Encounters with Performance Art Archivists
Presented by Art Gallery of York University and the Hemispheric Encounters Partnership. As part of the solo exhibition Jess Dobkin’s Wetrospective, this live-streamed panel discussion engages an international roster of Performance Art Archivists with the question: “How do archives perform?” The question articulates a shared interest between the presenters in exploring how archiving practices must shift when engaging with performance art, and how archiving performance art offers an opportunity to rethink the ‘archive’ more generally. This public dialogue also considered how archival practices for setting up ‘encounters’ with performance art shift in different contexts internationally. With Dan Pon from Vancouver’s grunt gallery, Jehan Roberson formerly from NYU’s Hemispheric Institute and currently at Cornell University, Lois Keidan formerly with Live Art Development Agency, Elaine Lin from Asia Art Archive, Laura Levin from York University and Director of Hemispheric Encounters Partnership, and Jess Dobkin, artist and Curator of Hemispheric Encounters’ Performing Archives Stream.
